Dr. Mattalino is a renowned orthopedic surgeon balancing his commitment to his private Orthopaedic Surgery practice and to education and training, including having served as a clinical instructor of sports medicine for the residents Scottsdale Healthcare Hospitals and the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Mattalino received his medical degree in 1982 from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas. He completed his residency at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana and a Orthopaedic Flexible Internship at New Orleans Charity Hospital/ Tulane Division.

Dr. Mattalino has done two Orthopaedic Fellowships, the first an Elbow and Arthroscopic Surgery & Sports Medicine Shoulder Fellowship with Dr. James R. Andrews of the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL. His second Fellowship with Dr. J.R. Steadman of Tahoe Fracture and Orthopaedic Medicine Clinic in South Lake Tahoe, CA (presently Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, CO), focused on Sports Medicine & Knee Surgery . Dr. Mattalino also earned his high school degree from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston, TX, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University and a Graduate Degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School.

Over the past two decades he has blended a busy clinical practice with the responsibility of caring for numerous amateur and professional athletes locally and around the world, including serving as the Head Team Physician for the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Organization, Medical Director/Orthopedic Surgeon for the ATP Tennis Tournament in Scottsdale; Orthopedic consultant for both Major League Baseball and USA Baseball for the International Baseball Federation Tournaments from 1998 to Present, and acting as Team Physician/Orthopedic consultant for numerous other professional, college and high school sports teams.

Dr. Mattalino has published numerous articles and chapters on the care and treatment of orthopedic injuries. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a founding member of the American Sports Medicine Institute Fellowship Society, member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, member of the Major League Baseball Team Physician Society, Association of Tennis Professionals Tournament Physician Association, and Professional Team Physician Association.
