Sports Injury in Phoenix? Meet Our Orthopaedic Surgeon

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Angelo Mattalino, MD provides an array of treatments for sports injuries. Our skilled and experienced orthopaedic surgeon specializes in treating elbow, knee and shoulder injuries, but it doesn’t stop there.

What Kind of Imaging Services are Provided?

Angelo Mattalino, MD use a type of X-ray imaging called digital radiography that uses digital X-ray sensors rather than conventional film. This has several advantages, including the abilities to immediately preview and enhance the image to get a better look at the injury. Digital radiography requires less radiation than conventional X-rays. The doctor can view the image on a computer or tablet and send it to colleagues in different places.

What are PRP Injections?

PRP stands for “platelet-rich plasma,” and it is a therapy used to treat a variety of conditions like the following:

• Meniscus tears in the knee
• Rotator cuff tear in the shoulder
• Injuries to the elbow, spine or hip
• Plantar fasciitis in the feet

The PRP comes from the patient’s own blood, and the platelets have regenerative powers that promote healing and relieve pain. Since the PRP comes from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of rejection or disease transmission. In many cases, PRP treats the injury so effectively that the patient will not need surgery. However, our orthopaedic surgeon will make this determination on a case by case basis.

What is Arthroscopy?

Arthroscopy is a procedure used to diagnose, examine and treat joint problems. Our orthopaedic surgeon may recommend arthroscopy if the patient has an injury, inflammation, or a chronic condition.
