OrthoBiologics

The Dr & Philosophy

Dr Mattalino is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who also specializes in Regenerative Medicine using OrthoBiologics to improve treatment outcomes. Each patient’s treatment plan is customized based on the injury and patient goals. This non-surgical approach is used to treat acute and chronic conditions.

Dr Mattalino’s mission is to get you back to your active lifestyle and in motion as quickly as possible whether you are a professional athlete or simply looking to improve your quality of life. Dr Mattalino is committed to providing his patients treatments that are extensively researched while maintaining fairly priced treatment options.

Dr Mattalino’s treatment plan incorporates procedures designed to enhance the body’s own healing properties to overcome injuries, whether it is an acute or overuse injury, and return you to normal activities quicker.

Treatment Options

The use of OrthoBiologics is revolutionizing orthopaedic care transitioning many common orthopaedic injuries that used to be treated surgically to procedures with minimal to no “down time.” When the body is injured and suffers from inflammation, the natural process of tissue growth factors rush to the area to stimulate cells leading to the onset of improvement of the damaged tissue and regeneration. The combination of the body’s own healing response and OrthoBiologics assists the rate and the quality of the healing process.

OrthoBiologics is a term combining ortho (which refers to bones) and biologics which refers to the naturally derived substances used to aid in the healing of tissues. OrthoBiologics are used to augment the body’s ability to overcome inflammatory conditions and heal. These innovative non-surgical treatments can be used for both acute and chronic orthopaedic injuries. This approach stimulates the healing process, suppresses inflammatory conditions and helps restore function.

If your injury is a mechanical problem and surgery is indicated, the use of OrthBiologics can be combined to speed up the healing process.

Exosomes are a form of regenerative medicine therapy that aid damaged cells by reducing inflammation, assist in the regeneration of new cells and signal damaged cells to return to healthy function. Benefits of Exosomes include properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant (improve cell function and survival), anti-apoptotic (slow progression of degeneration), anti-fibrotic (reduce scar tissue forming during wound healing and after tissue injury), pro-angiogenic (improve blood supply to injured tissue, prevent tissue degeneration and impaired function), and pro-synthetic (enhance extracellular production, help restore damaged tissue and stimulate the production of normal articular cartilage).

Amniotic Allograft is a regenerative biologic treatment that contains a rich source and high concentration of growth factors along with naturally occurring anti-inflammatory agents, essential nutrients and proteins along with hyaluronic acid. The high concentration of these substances help speeds up the healing process. This biologic treatment has a low risk of immune response while promoting safe and natural healing. It is important to understand that stem cells are not contained in this amniotic tissue.

During the normal aging process, our body’s ability to heal itself decreases. The use of biologic therapeutics including Exosomes, PRP, viscosupplementation and cortisone help stimulate the healing process as well as act as a magnet to attract the body’s own healing properties.

The use of Image-guided procedures, including injections, is quickly becoming the standard of care. The image-guidance enables the doctor to ensure accuracy and safety while pinpointing the precise location for the injection ensuring the medication is delivered to the affected area. These injections are performed in an outpatient procedure setting allowing the team to work in a sterile environment and monitor vital signs.

Results

Most patients report a consistent decrease in pain as well as an improvement in mobility and function typically within 8 weeks. When combined with viscosupplementation this improvement can last several months to one year.
