Candidates for Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Surgery

Rotator cuff surgery doesn’t have to be a scary experience. There are options available that are minimally-invasive that do not require deep cuts and lengthy hours. It is called arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery, and you can learn about all its benefits when you visit our office for a consultation.

What is Arthroscopy?

Arthroscopy can be performed on almost any joint in the body. It is done with an arthroscope, which is an endoscope that is inserted into the body. It is considerably advantageous over standard surgery on the joints, mainly because there is no need for a large incision. One of the most popular uses for an arthroscope is to correct ACL problems; however, it is extremely useful for rotator cuff surgery as well.

Arthroscopy can be used for:

  • Diagnosis
  • Meniscus tears
  • Repairing ligaments
  • Knee surgery
  • Rotator cuff surgery
  • Other shoulder surgeries

Why Arthroscopy for the Rotator Cuff?

Arthroscopy is commonly done on the shoulder. Out of all the different shoulder surgeries that can be performed with an arthroscope, rotator cuff surgery, along with bankart’s lesion repair, is the most common surgery performed. In fact, shoulder surgery with an arthroscope has become so common that it has earned its own term: keyhole surgery. Arthroscopy has one obvious benefit, no matter where the surgery is performed: it has a vastly reduced time of recovery than standard surgery.

You Could Be a Candidate

Shoulder pain can be attributed to many things. The cause of shoulder pain is usually repeated movement, sudden trauma, or general wear and tear. People with these types of injuries will suffer through not only pain, but also limited mobility. Eventually, other symptoms, like frequent dislocations, may occur.

The best way to prevent shoulder pain is to take proper measures to prevent it; however, for some, due to their job or other unavoidable circumstances, shoulder pain is inevitable. Anyone suffering from an unstable shoulder is a potential candidate for arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery. The only way to tell is to consult our professional.
